It was just before 9 a.m., and the air still carried a hint of early spring’s chill.
At the event’s meeting point, participants organized their backpacks while nodding and greeting one another. The host’s voice echoed from the stage, and the warm-up activities gradually began to liven up the atmosphere.
This “Walk Together for a Better Day” charity walk has been organized by the Heartway Foundation for many years. For Heartway, “accompaniment” has never been just a slogan. They have long been an integral part of the lives of people with disabilities and their families—from early intervention and daily living support to vocational training and social participation—step by step transforming the idea of “being needed” into “being understood and living together.”
And the walk is a quintessential example of Heartway’s approach. Rather than placing people with disabilities in a position of being cared for, they invite everyone to stand on the same path, walking at the same pace, and stepping into each other’s daily lives.
On this day, colleagues from Ta Tun also joined in. No one was deliberately assigned to care for anyone else; they simply walked together naturally as the group formed. After setting off, their paces weren’t uniform—some walked a bit faster, others a bit slower—so everyone adjusted as they went. Those in front would call out road conditions, while those in the back would slow down to wait; often, a single glance was enough to understand each other’s intentions.
The atmosphere during the walk was very relaxed. We’d stop at checkpoints to take photos and chat; when we got tired, we’d take a short break. The laughter wasn’t particularly loud, but it was always there. The feeling was simple—it wasn’t about “let’s do charity,” but rather “it’s actually pretty nice to walk together today.”
As the event drew to a close, everyone gathered again to applaud the participants in the raffle and celebrate the winners. No one was singled out as the center of attention, but everyone was fully present in that moment.
For the employees of Da Dong Electric, what remained from this day wasn’t just a prearranged event schedule, but a genuine realization: companionship doesn’t necessarily require words or actions; as long as we’re willing to walk together, many distances will gradually fade away.
As the crowd dispersed and the venue returned to silence, the memory of walking together remained.
It also reminds us that in our daily lives, with just a little more patience and a little more walking alongside one another, kindness can continue to flourish.
