“Even though I’m a little slow, I can stick these on by myself!”
On the eve of Children’s Day, volunteers from Ta Tun visited the “Xinlu Taoyuan Development Center.” In that space filled with laughter, we helped the children complete a heartwarming task: sticking colorful flower petals one by one onto a previously blank white wall.
This small task, which seemed simple to us, required tremendous effort in concentration and perseverance from these children who are receiving early intervention therapy.
We stood by, watching as the children used their tiny, slightly trembling hands to repeatedly align the petals; watching as children with limited vision, guided by volunteers, carefully felt their way using the tips of their fingers. Even though their motor skills may be uncoordinated and the world before their eyes may be somewhat blurry, their positive attitude—their determination to “never give up and see it through”—deeply moved every volunteer.
When the final petal was placed, the once-blank wall instantly blossomed into a vibrant bouquet of flowers. In that moment, we saw not just the artwork on the wall, but the vibrant colors of life that the children had strived to bring forth, overcoming their physical limitations.
The teachers at the Xinlu Center are like guardians to these “slow-flying angels”; through professional therapeutic care and family support, they build bridges for the children to connect with the world.
This marks the second year of collaboration between Ta Tun and the Xinlu Foundation. We deeply understand that early intervention is a long journey that requires resources from all sectors. Ta Tun hopes to continue providing assistance in every way possible. Through long-term care and collaboration, we aim to make the path ahead smoother and easier for these children.
Love means walking alongside them, slowly and diligently helping them bloom like a flower.
